Heretic:Shadow Of The Serpent Riders Review Continuing my streak of  older FPS games, Heretic is a dark fantasy-themed first person shooter using the Doom engine. You take control of the lone hero out to defeat some spooky monsters and douche-bag wizard dudes. The game play is almost identical to Doom (right down to even sharing some of its sound effects), which is to say, very good. Control is tight and responsive, combat is very satisfying, Exploration is usually quite fun outside of the occasional “where is the fucking key?!” moments. One difference is that you have an inventory system, just like with Blood, so that means you can save up all your gear for really tough fights, which is very handy. Torches can be used to light dark areas, and you even get purple flasks that you can use to restore your health manually instead of having to hunt for small vials. Th...
Resident Evil 2 (1998 Dual Shock Edition) Review Resident Evil 2 is a beloved game from my childhood that I’ve recently revisited. It was my introduction to the world of horror games, I had watched some other kids play it at a friends birthday party, and he later let me borrow the Leon disc to play at home. It is a sequel to the first Resident Evil, which I’ve actually not yet played - making this game in introduction to the franchise as well. In it, you play as Leon and Claire, who both head into Racoon City on the same fateful night, getting themselves caught up in a full-blown zombie apocalypse. Claire is here looking for her brother after he went missing after the events of the first game. Leon is a rookie cop on his first day of the job (and while I don’t much care for real life cops, he’s thankfully a likeable character, much more interested in keeping civilians safe...
Fractal Space Demo Review (Xbox One) I recently decided to start making a list of interesting looking Xbox One game demos to try out, and I figured as long as I’m trying them out, I could review them too! It might seem strange for me to be reviewing a games demo over its full release, but I can’t always afford to be buying new games, and sometimes I want to buy a game but it has DRM or it’s from a company I don’t want to give money to so I just play the free demo instead. Speaking of such -many companies won’t even put demos out for their games anymore, (or if they do it’s a limited time only DRM affair) so as a potential customer, I want to let y'all know that getting try your game before I pay for the full version greatly increases the chance of me being interested in doing so! All that said, onto my review of this charming little game demo, Fractal Space! Fractal S...
Read Dead Redemption 2 (PC) Review Red dead Redemption 2 is a charming and beautiful open world action adventure game set in the late 1800s of North America. You play as Arthur Morgan, an outlaw in a gang trying to get by in a changing world. The game is very cinematic in style and wonderfully written, I’d love to gush about a lot of the story details, but don’t want to spoil it for anyone - so I’ll try to be vague about storyline moments. I will at-least say that if you’re concerned that the game will have you playing as some awful, unlikable scumbag (as I was initially when a friend was telling me about the game - this is the same company that makes Gran Theft Auto, after all) the characters in the game are morally complicated and you get plenty of opportunities to do kind and helpful things. I ended up being greatly fond of Arthur Morgan and his friends, myself. I...
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky (Game Review) STALKER Clear Sky is the second game in the STALKER game series, though it’s story apparently takes place before the first game. Like the previous, it is a mostly open-world survival horror game inspired by the Chernobyl disaster. In this one’s story, you start out playing as a Stalker (a “backronym” for Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers and Robbers) who was escorting some scientists through the swamps when an emmision (deadly shock-waves of energy and spacetime distortion that occur in the game’s “Zone”) hit and kill everyone but you. You are rescued by a secret science team called “Clear Sky”, who eventually escort you back out into the swamps, where your adventures can begin. It had been a couple years since I played the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game but I was greeted by many of the same things I lo...
The 3D Adventures Of Sailor Moon (PC) (Game Review) Sailor Moon is one those franchises that is an exception to my general revulsion to anime nowadays, because it holds nostalgic value and it’s female-centric cast was a comforting form of escapism for me when I was a closeted baby-gay back in the late 90s/early 2000s. (A friend once drew me as Sailor Venus in middle school - as a joke - and I ended up loving the idea of it! ). It also helps that the characters aren’t floppy water balloon-boob monsters who are constantly trying to show their panties to the camera (in general, I find the visuals of older anime shows much more pleasant to look at).  Looking back on it as an adult, I’m bothered by the anti-queer censorship the show faced in America, and as adorable as all the Sailor Scout uniforms are, it’s a little off-putting that these gals in tiny miniskirts are ...
